My painting practice is guided by intention and intuition, and a deep love of colour, line, and pattern. Inspired by the natural world, my work celebrates the vast, ever-changing Australian landscape and reflects a strong connection to earth and place. Beginning with daily drawing and close observation, I build larger-than-life images from loose charcoal and ink lines, layered with bold acrylic & oil paint. Heavy black organic outlines, moody skies, a landscape-driven palette, and an exaggerated, sometimes aerial perspective define these works. I paint loosely and confidently, treating the canvas like a page from my sketchbook rather than focusing on fine detail.
More than literal depictions, my paintings are impressionistic expressions of heart and mind—what I call Imagined Landscapes or Soulscapes. They draw equally from the outer world and my inner life, allowing ideas to emerge with authenticity and purpose. My personal story is woven through the language of the land in its layers, marks, patterns, and contrasts. Recurring motifs such as trees, rocks, and blackbirds reference ancestral connections to place, offering both personal and collective meaning. Through my work, I aim to convey a sense of awe, reflection, and reverence for the beauty and sacredness of life.
“A bold painter, Jassy uses mixed media to capture her vision of the Australian landscape and its man-made interventions, highlighted by her unique sense of perspective, space, and distance within a single image.”
